maybe im stretching but a very 2000s look at fascism where "the caller" gets to call the shots because stu has done bad things but he screams Authoritarianism in his voice and tone.
and while predictable for era, the caller lives which signifies the growing and staying fascism in america. stu is at mercy but he's stripped of his individuality and free will for most of the runtime before actively taking it back by confessing to his wife that he cheated for himself (wether we know he did is up for debate)
joel schumacher's direction is very of the time and does so much and is so full of style which doesn't always work but he's able to create suspends in mostly 1 location. forest whitaker gives a decent performance, obviously kiefer sutherland and collin ferrel are the best ones because they are given most of the material but everyone else is decent to good with so little. thank god jared letto's single scene got cut lol. phone booth could be a masterpiece BUT it doesn't go full on with anything, the cops being here adds nothing except that obviously they need to be there, they are cops nut they don't add to the themes.(watch my second feature film, kodak: https://boxd.it/dNvKo1 )

a movie like this is why people don't like jj abrams.
coated in lazy nostalgia in both its aesthetic, themes and characters.
litteraly could've been set any other decade other then maybe the fact its called super 8 and uses film but even then, people still use film lol.im not the biggest spielberg fan but he does have sauce, this is abrams trying to replicate that magic (ironic consider spielberg is a producer on this) and its really annoying and largely it makes abrams creative choices in storytelling lacking. it tinkers with little pieces of character work but its all either resolved in a lazy way or the arc was subpar or both. it never actually completes anything with its characters so all they really are, are a bunch of kids and one adult man with no personality besides one liking firecrackers. kyle chandler gives a fine performance but is giving nothing to work with besides maybe one scene and even then, that scene is undeserved as the film doesn't make the relationship between father and son compelling or interesting. its just "yeah we have issues because of death" but the way they deal with it is so shitty and is missing a lot of stuff so when kyle chandler police officer forgives the man who accidentally causes the car crash in which his wife died, it feels unearned.
the cinematography is fine and larry fong does some good work but sometimes the camera but also things like the lens flairs can just be annoying or exhausting, its fun but when those visuals don't really strengthen the core of the film then idk. it still looks good and thats the most important thing but i think my main problem is how over stylized but also annoying it is in its replication of spielberg which includes the score as well.

mommy issues final boss - no cutscenes.
seriously tho, exactly a film that needs to exist as a representation of the frustrating family existence within communication systems and how that can cause for trauma, hatred, loathing and pent up frustration that all will eventually burst one day. liv ullman and ingrid bergman show that perfectly in their performances as the screams of ullman echo through the house and its interior and as tears pour out of their eyeballs.
i think art that portrays the damaged and broken structure of parental figures is important but the film also displays a level of empathy that is needed for such a discussion. ingmar bergman really is cinema's greatest nazi.

really hard to make more reviews even tho i always have the feeling that i have more to say. but largely, my last year as legally a minor (lol) feels like something only ever looked back on via pictures and stuck inside those pictures in the future. i don't really am excited for the next few years but something, a qeustion that has been stuck in my mind for a long time is "what do you still get from this family" which is a qeustion my mother asked a few months ago.....and i just couldn't think of anything non material and i think more and more about that because i think we both realize that its where our relationship is now but nobody is willing to admit who's at fault but also the constent gifts of expensive stuff is all everything is between us, from a new tv to new clothes which, the clothes are more female oriented to be fair, i think i mentioned that once but it all feels empty at a certain point, whats the point anymore when we both know we won't budge and don't actually align?
there is something so interesting about the phrase "we don't have to agree but we can get allong"
a phrase i agree with but i don't when we are talking basic human rights like a fucking name or just pronouns. gender is a social illusions but then why can't i be part of that? but where do i go? i can leave but then where do i sleep? where do i stay?
but im also to afraid to say something back, say what i actually think because most of the times i've only received anger again and wearing feminine clothes is not forbidden but everytime i don't put them in my backpack before stepping foot in house, all i ever get is "where doing stuff again on your own, are we?" like there was any effort from the otherside to say anything remotely in that direction or to help me with that.im kinda just fed up with everything, i just think its unfair because i don't look like other girls, i don't sound like other girls, my hands are big, my face has a dark shadow were a beard is gonna be and i have lived for 15 years as a boy but what i find most hideous is the fact i've lived with only woman in my entirely life but there no ounce of compastion, only a mild grumpyness with a hint of interest thats still rooted in ignorance and hate because thats all ignorance ever is.
loosely based on the first few issues of the comics in its first few minutes and then it spins off on a new story. something i definitely see myself considering a childhood classic because even now, i just really don't care, this shit slaps. its very millennial type shit but its works here simply because of how strong the personalities of the world and characters are.
its made for kids definitely but idk, something about a world not seeing the clear evil in their midst but for kids is very appealing to me and its art style is one of my favorite styles ever. i do like the more angular and blocky rendition but this is still peak and both have their pro's and con's.
the original show is easily one of my favorite shows ever and i also really like the issues i've read of the comics. ingeneral i just love invader zim as a concept because there is something so funny to me about such a nihilistic show and to a lesser extend the film.also dib is the goat.

early on the editing is fantastic and the score is great but, at least for those two elements, they get weaker by time but neccesarily bad, my main issue with the score is that it mostly just made the same (good) melody over and over and over again which, its good but especially in the 3rd act, it lessens the things happening on screen.
the editing is more so that, i loved what raymond lee and borgli did early on, sure its frantic but it never loses itself but then later on its not as sturdy as in its first 30 min. the drama is generally about being a warning sign for the lack of empathy in modern society and our comprehension of the change in the individual person and if that is real or not. i think thats well handled at a lot of points but what i dislike about it which, honestly, is way better in dream scenario is its "quirky" akward moments which were not funny at all. i just don't think the writing but also tone is there to support it. its not something i immidiately noticed but once it gets repeated, the same type of joke becomes obvious.
the performances of both pattinson and zendaya elevate the film and its conflict very much so. but what i think this film misses is a clearer picture because while inherentely you as a person don't need to have a bigger picture of someones life, but it should be clear so when the world and experiences feel so little it feels weird, thats why celebrities and opologies don't work mostly imo because we only ever get bits and pieces and to fully understand one as a person but also an opology, it has be clear and sadly you can't always or almost never have that in this case. so when 1 out of the 2 main characters we only ever get cookie crumb's off for past mistakes. there is something, a need to be seen, criticism of online spaces and encouragement of that and the glorification within early stages of life of something as terrifying as school shooting and how deppresion works within that but its all just stuck in a few lines of dialogue and a few tiny scenes so the picture is not clear.
maybe thats part of it all but imo, it kinda goes against the whole idea of the film. empathy is something we should have more but what we also should have is a lengthy explanation and to extend, the film displays that with the character of rachel but she's not in any way a fully formed character and just kinda 1 dimensional look on the outraged half that would respond like her.
the performances are fantastic and i really like the cinematography having such a....LOOK to it like dream scenario but i also think dream scenario honestly invites more discussion, i don't think within that film, not one person is explicitely the only one accountable but a whole system that kicks into gear but it also does look at cancel culture and that surrounding it differentely but also similaire in a lot of aspects.
the drama, not bad, almost good but its also weirdly inconsistent the more i think about it.(watch my feature film kodak: https://boxd.it/dNvKo1 )
the french sure likes to jump in slow mo at the big wheels of canon's
lowkey amirias looks like kevin smith.
an endurance test, an achievement but also just a damm good movie.
bela tarr's style of film making is slow and nihilistic, i really liked damnation and family nest was fine but satantango is on another level of his film making abilities. i love long movies and by extension slow cinema. the film follows a hungarian village who all have problem rooted in the system but also within the collapse of the fall of communism.the film is a perfect encapsulation of those slow but mournfull days. while i do think it can sometimes feel self indulgent with its film making, again, i don't specifically mind that.
its definitely a lot and i see a lot people take days or breaks but i encourage to NOT do that. sure, its a lot to take in but imo you get a lot more out of a film like this within in one sitting.
its a film thats like most of tarr's films, beautifully nihilistic and moodfully sad but its also interesting in its demonstration on the effects of democracy and its immidiately effects, democracy is fast and invades the lives of these people and within that, they don't have a lot of options in what to do.(watch my feature film kodak: https://boxd.it/dNvKo1 )
The cast is great but it really is just a lesser john woo clone which makes it already just oke but idk, chow yun fat is goated so its it ain't bad.

i've only ever seen birdman from inarritu, i really liked it.
babel is also not that bad, it is interesting in its idea of communication but that communication never evolves beyond its idea and by that i mean that multiple relationships are present but there isn't much we know about any of them which makes it all feel weak in the end.
i still liked a lot of individual moments but while its themes of communication and language are fine, it never really delves deep.
brad pitt gives a good performance and you can really see how tired he is now when compared to something like this.rinko kikuchi, said tarchani, Boubker Ait El Caid and Mohamed Akhzam are especially standouts and its a shame most of these people haven't appeared in much from what i know off because each of them helps the film convey its message, from fear to teenage life in different parts of the world.

Me when im tappy tibbons and im tibbying my shit like i've never tibbyied before. Tappy.
can be funny and is a lot better in its cheeziness then something like the devil wears prada but its still stuck in 2004 and not in a good way.
despites having bursts of an interesting depiction of school, its mostly mundane and boring which you can say the same about the characters.
i liked regina george i guess but thats kinda it and the script doesn't give the great cast much. the film also is shot so boringly when its not using transitions (because for some reason the transitions are pretty good) its spiritually a digitally shot film from the last 5 years.
i get how this one has become a lot more iconic then most teen drama's but also it doesn't do a lot of things differentely or more interesting then its peers in the genre. i mean, in its entirety i think that genre more then anything is boring as fuck mostly because the scripts suck and are also dominanetly white centric (which in of itself isn't the doom of the genre, its just that the you can TELL from the way characters talk)its not TERRIBLE or something but there isn't really anything to write home about or comeback to besides some of the performances but at that point just watch a youtube scenepack.
